Kim DeHart
Board Member
Kim has dedicated her life to advocating for animals. From a young age, she was always rescuing and caring for injured animals, even fostering baby raccoons, squirrels, dogs, and cats. In 2014, she joined Florida Urgent Rescue in Jacksonville, Florida, where her mission—alongside the rescue organization—has always been to find loving homes for shelter animals. She has contributed by helping to locate fosters and adopters, supporting veterinary care, donating, volunteering at rural kill shelters, transporting animals, hosting adoption events, and organizing fundraising efforts. Over the years, Kim has fostered numerous dogs, and though some became permanent members of her family, she has always remained committed to helping as many as possible.
In 2015, Kim founded the nonprofit FUR Sisters in Jacksonville Beach, where she saved hundreds of dogs from euthanasia and illness. Today, she continues her mission to assist animals in need in Baker County to support rescues and further her work. Kim now owns a farm that is home to a variety of rescued farm animals, each of whom came from situations where they needed a safe place to call home.
In 2022, Kim lost her beloved Miniature Pinscher, Lola. In her memory, Kim opened Lola's Barn, an event venue on her farm, with Lola's silhouette featured in the logo proudly displayed out front. Earlier this year, Kim also mourned the loss of her soul dog and best friend, D2, a 7-year-old black lab mix who bravely fought kidney disease until his passing in January 2025. D2 came into her life as part of a hoarding case in 2017, where Kim rescued five puppies from a dire situation. While she helped nurse all of them back to health, D2 and his brother, Blue, became permanent members of her family.
Kim’s home is still filled with rescued animals, including “foster failures” like Hugh Hefner, Kingston, Blue, Deebo, and Vivienne. With a heart full of love for animals, she remains driven by her desire to help all creatures in need. Alongside her passion for animal rescue, Kim has spent 12 years in the real estate industry, helping people find their perfect homes—and perhaps the perfect pet to go with them.
